Long car journeys or long haul flight can be the cause of back pain. Remember your back needs constant upkeep, ie stretches to full range in all directions especially backwards or extensions. Do them before travel – ie prime your discs and then if possible every 2 hours into travel. Use a lumbar support where you can for long trips – a rolled up towel secured in a stocking will do the trick. This will ensure your spine is supported and the back extensions mean any poor postures provoked by gravity can be reversed. Sleeping in a bed that is not your own can also provoke back pain. Stretching your spine to end range especially in the extension direction as above will ease discomfort.
